GONZALES — On May 24 the Fairview Middle School wrestling team from Gonzales completed the season with an awards night. The young Warriors featured many youngsters that were new to the sport of wrestling.

“I am very proud of this year’s team as the majority of them were first-year wrestlers and learned a lot in a short period of time,” said Warrior head coach Larry Rodriguez. “Most of our team consisted of fifth and sixth graders who didn’t shy away from competing with larger schools. They competed with teams from as far away as Santa Maria to San Jose.”

The standouts from this year’s Warrior wrestling team were: Evelyn Flores (Coaches Award); Gracie Leon (Coaches Award); Samantha Franco (Warrior Award); Jose Viorato (Team Captain); and Andrew Zarate (MVP).
