Overall winner Carlos Espinoza (#317) leads the Gonzales RX Pharmacy Orange and Black 5K with Luis Alba and Angel Anguiano in quick pursuit.

GONZALES — Runners and walkers of all ages took part in the Gonzales RX Pharmacy Fifth Annual Orange and Black 5K on the Fourth of July in Gonzales.

The event that benefits Gonzales High students with scholarships featured some friendly competition and a fun family environment.

Carlos Espinoza of Soledad was the high school division winner and overall race winner. Andrew Funk of Gonzales was second to Espinoza and was second overall, and Luis Alba of Soledad was third in the high school division and third overall.

Marcela Perez of Soledad was the high school division and overall race winner followed by Jonaiza Simbre who was second overall and the race winner in the adult women’s division.

Other men and boys medal winners and their times were: Angel Anguiano, first in adult men’s division; Mark Beering, second in adult men; Jaime Valdez third in adult men; Jose Rico, first in men’s over 50; Jonathon Ybarra, first in middle school division; Leonel Uribe, first in grade school division, and Andrew Lujan, second in grade school division.

Adult women and girls medal winners were: Estefania Montel, second in high school girls division;
Kathleen Humphries, third in high school girls; Maria Martinez, second in adult women division; Susan Mayer, first in women over 50; Virginia Bennett, second in women over 50; Karen Park, third in women over 50; Gyzelle McFarland, first in middle school division; and Angelina Ybarra, second in middle school.
