Louis V. Garcia, Jr. of Gonzales, California died peacefully at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital on October 21, 2018 at the age of 81 after a short illness. Virginia Rodriguez Garcia of Gonzales, California died peacefully at home on November 1, 2018 at the age of 77 after a short illness. Both were surrounded by loving family at the time of their passing.

Louis was born on September 25, 1937 in San Jose, California to Louis P. and Estella Garcia. The family moved to Gonzales in the late 1940s. Louis served as a Private E-1 in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1958. He was also a reservist in the Gonzales Police Department in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Louis was employed by Asgrow Seed Company for more than 30 years, retiring in 1992.

Virginia was born on December 21, 1940 in New Braunfels, Texas to Juan and Victoria Rodriguez. The family moved to Gonzales in the late 1950s. She was employed by Asgrow Seed Company for more than 35 years, retiring in 1998.

Louis and Virginia met in Gonzales in the late 1950s and were married on June 26, 1960 at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Gonzales. They were married for 58 years, raising their family in Gonzales. One of their favorite pastimes was enjoying a glass of wine at home and dancing to their favorite oldies. They also took many spur-of-the-moment weekend trips to Half Moon Bay, Solvang, and Monterey. They were completely devoted to one another and enjoyed spending every minute together.

Louis and Virginia are survived by their children Louis R. Garcia (Gary Davis) of Monterey, Adela Garcia (Tony Ferrel) of Gonzales and David Garcia (Margaret Sandoval) of Soledad as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Louis is also survived by sisters Anita Palomares of Gonzales, Margaret Tambunga of Texas and Estella Garcia Jr. of Gonzales. Virginia is survived by her sister Victoria Rodriguez of Gonzales.

A celebration of their lives together will be held at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, 116 South Belden Street in Gonzales, California on Friday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Gonzales District Cemetery, 1000 Highway 101 South, Gonzales, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to St. Theodore’s Church in honor of Virginia and Louis Garcia.
