GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department has introduced “Nice To Meet You” trading cards featuring its police officers for the community.

The idea is similar to that of a favorite baseball, basketball or football player card, with each officer at the department having one. A short biography of the police officer is on the backside of the card.

“It’s just another way I thought the officers and the community could personally meet, talk and get to know each other a little better,” said Gonzales Police Chief Keith Wise.

The project is part of the strengthening law enforcement and community relations project. In order to gain a card, all residents have to do is contact each one of the police officers in person, introduce themselves and ask for a trading card.

Currently there are 12 different cards to collect. Police officers work night and day, which will present a challenge to collect all 12.

“Every two weeks or so we will be showcasing a different police employee card,” Wise said. “Since introducing the cards a little over three weeks ago, department staff have met a lot of new people who live, work and go to school here.”
