GONZALES — For the second straight year, the Shield Bearers Booster Club for Gonzales High School football is sponsoring a flag football program for local youth.

Shield Bearers supports Gonzales High School football and related activities that promote well-rounded student-athletes and encourage community outreach.

Just like last season, the flag football program is fielding teams in the mini division (6 to 8 years old) and a junior division (9 to 11 years old). The teams in the mini division include the Packers, Chiefs, Dolphins and Giants. In the junior division, the teams are the Steelers, Seahawks, Saints and the Falcons.

Games are played on Friday nights at Dick Force Stadium in Gonzales, and the teams will play a six-game schedule followed by playoff games. Playoff games will take place beginning Friday, July 19.

The teams practice every Thursday at 6 p.m., and there will be a Monday practice on July 1 to not conflict with the Fourth of July holiday.

Two games are played at one time, beginning with the first games at 6:30 p.m. and the second scheduled games at 7:30 p.m.

The Shield Bearers board members for the 2019 season are President Eddie Ramirez, Vice President Angie Ramirez, Secretary Becky Avila and Treasurer Juan Leyva.
