GONZALES — Non-league play was rough for the Gonzales High baseball team as they dropped two games during the Easter Break. The Spartans lost non-league games to Mount Pleasant of San Jose and Le Grand Union. The setbacks drop Gonzales to 3-8 overall.

The Spartans were shut out 4-0 on April 3 to the Cardinals of Mount Pleasant and were beaten 10-6 at on home on Thursday against Le Grand Union. Xando Mendez pitched in the game against Mount Pleasant and Gonzalo Villagomez started at pitcher against Le Grand Union.

“The teams we played against were about the same level as we are,” said Gonzales head coach Erik Lopez. “The game against Le Grand was a tough one because we had a 4-0 lead in that game and gave up the lead. Dilan Gomez and Isaiah Banuelos hit well for us in those two games.”

The Spartans resumed Mission Trail Athletic League games yesterday as the traveled to play the Greenfield High Bruins. Gonzales began the week 3-3 in the MTAL and will host the Bruins on Friday on the Spartan playing fields.
