GONZALES — Approximately 50 Gonzales youth spent Sept. 2 at Great America thanks to fundraising efforts by the Gonzales Youth Guardians.

The Youth Guardians held a Chicken Takeout Barbecue fundraiser on Aug. 6 with the proceeds benefitting the youth who weren’t able to go anywhere over the summer.

“We rented a van and it was a great event,” said Jean Salcido, chaperone. “Out of the 50, there were 17 first-time visitors to Great America.”

According to Salcido, this is the third year that local youth have been able to go to Great America and the first time for many of them.

The group included youth, parents and chaperones who had all their tickets, lunch and dinner at Round Table Pizza paid for from the money raised by the Youth Guardians.
