GONZALES — With two individual champions leading the way the Gonzales High wrestling team placed fourth at the Bert Mar Invitational that took place on Saturday at Independence High School in San Jose. There were 30 teams competing in the one-day tournament. Winning their respective weight classes were Spartan grapplers Eric Albarran and Robert Ochoa.

Albarran was the champion of the 184 pound weight class and Ochoa was the champion of the 197 pound weight class. Placing second was Antonio Viorato at 170 pounds, Gregorio Alfaro placed fourth at 134 pounds, and Victor Llamas placed fifth at 197 pounds.

Also competing in San Jose for Gonzales were: Jerome Russell (128); Chase Castillo (132); Eric Correa (140); Pablo Contreras (140); Angel Anguiano (147); Aron Uribe (147); and Justin Uribe (152).

At last week’s first Mission Trail Athletic League Quad Meet at Soledad, the Spartans defeated Greenfield 55-6; King City 59-9; and Soledad 54-24.

The next MTAL Quad Meet will take place on Jan. 24 at Carmel High School with wrestling starting at 5 p.m.

This Saturday Gonzales High will compete at the Overfelt Classic at Overfelt High School in San Jose.
