GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department has added two new police officers to its force, with the swearing in of Officers Matthew Doughty and Matthew Villaneda.

Doughty and Villenada were sworn in at the first October City Council meeting in front of their family, friends and community members. Doughty had his badge pinned by his stepfather, and Villenada had his mother pin his badge.

“Thank you to the City of Gonzales and the City Council for allowing me to be part of the police department and part of this community,” said Doughty, who enjoys fishing, hunting and working on cars in his off time.

Villenada said, “I’d like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to work for the Gonzales Police Department.”

Villenada, a Hartnell College graduate, earned his associate’s degree in criminal justice. He joined the Gonzales Police to give back to the community where he grew up.
