GREENFIELD — California State Water Board staff set up a booth last Sunday at Patriot Park in Greenfield to sign up South County residents who qualify for free bottled drinking water if they have private domestic wells with high nitrate levels.

The pilot program, funded through the Salinas Basin Agricultural Stewardship Group, is only for rural residents who depend on groundwater for household uses. City water services are not affected.
