New-news: Taking the oath of office were two new members Domingo Uribe and Oscar Avalos on June 19 by City Clerk Erica Sonne, Planning Commission secretary. Next was to select a vice chair. David Mendez was chosen for one year. Chair David Nuck and Ralph Lee were remaining commissioners, until Uribe and Avalos are sworn in.

New-news: The first item on agenda was a permit for Always Towing. Always Towing is a certified AAA towing service and used serving Monterey County. It will continue the use of a vehicle storage yard, where the fenced area can be used for storage of 30 vehicles. However, the  city has the property currently up for sale. Always can continue to stay as the permit was approved. To continue use permit for Leyva’s Towing is allowed and approved at 815 Broadway St. and 905 Broadway.

New-news: Moving on to other items on the agenda were Rava’s on Jayne Street dorm-style housing is being worked on. An update where Sun Street Centers is progressing. Medical cannabis cultivation where 12 permits have been approved, and where staff has been in regular discussion with reviewing and evaluating applicants. Example: Applicants with permits issued as in Boutique Unlimited, The Tribe or MD Bio Design, gives me reason to think it’s a very colorful business to have. These are all items to be considered at the present. Now when you think about what there is involved, show some appreciation for those willing to spend their time working on important complicated issues for our city.

New-news: The July fireworks comes on early and it has been explained because the date of the third works out better for the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, where they are at a loss of cash flow, some from theft and other problems last year. So our Chamber Board has decided to make a change and hold fireworks on the third at dusk at King City Park and Stampede Arena. You are invited to watch the aerial fireworks a day early. Not so many years ago we had none.

Old-news: Looking forward to the parade on the fourth and the holiday a day off. While watching the parade, take note of the banners on each street light. These are all part of our history now and purchased by the owner of Broadway Jewelers Adan (Eddie) El-Helou, a Lebanese citizen. He felt just as strongly about America as we do. Each year we unpack them and Public Works department puts them up for all American holidays. I wonder if you knew how these banners just happened to show up right before the King City in Bloom project.

Old-news: Yes it’s the first day of summer, while I write the pools are waiting and the summer camps. Swim lessons and recreational swim and all you have to do is stop by or phone to make plans for a birthday to rent a pool for a party. Sol Treasures has classes and ideas and First Tee of Monterey summer camp, also the public library. These are all places to research and reasonable cost. How helpful it would be for you to stop to ask and what you may find interesting and a plan?

New-news: The Citizen Code Enforcement Advisory Committee meets June 27 at 4 p.m. It is held at City Chambers and has an update. If you have a complaint, this could be your opportunity to be heard.

New-news: It was slow to take off the first time and now here comes the fifth annual National Night Out and with a good deal of planning involved. On Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the King City Fire Station on Bassett and sponsored by our KC Fire Department and King City Recreational Center. There are Crime Prevention and Safety Tips, on drug abuse prevention, neighborhood watch, internet safety, personal safety and bullying prevention and disaster preparedness. Put it on your calendar for free hot dogs!
