MONTEREY COUNTY  Monterey County Health Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the individuals responsible for illegally dumping hazardous waste last week in Marina and Gonzales.

Health Department officials responded Wednesday to reports of illegally disposed 55-gallon drums containing hazardous waste. They found 34 drums off Blanco Road near Reservation Road in Marina and an additional 18 drums on Johnson Canyon Road in Gonzales.

“Most drums, at both sites, were found on their sides leaking black tar-like material onto the ground,” officials said Friday in a news release.

The Health Department believes the material was dumped sometime between Tuesday, Jan. 16, and Wednesday, Jan. 17.

The public is being asked to help identify the vehicles and/or individuals involved in these disposals. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Health Department at 831-755-4505.
