GONZALES — Spartan pitcher Gonzalo Villagomez allowed only one hit and struckout five in a 3-0 shutout win for Gonzales over the visiting Anzar Hawks of San Juan Bautista.  Villagomez was credited with an RBI and received pitching help from Manny Vargas in the sixth inning.

Vargas earned the save and added a basehit and Pedro Villacana had an RBI. Gonzales improved to 4-7 in league and 6-8 overall. The Spartans will conclude the Mission Trail Athletic League two-game series with the Hawks in San Juan Bautista on May 1.

Last Thursday the Gonzales JV team defeated visiting Soledad by a 7-3 score. Alex Morga pitched the complete game victory for the Spartan JV’s.

The Gonzales teams played the Watsonville Wildcatz yesterday in Watsonville and will return to league play on April 25 and 28 against the Carmel Padres.
