SOUTH COUNTY — King City in Bloom will host a dedication ceremony next Wednesday for the new windmill and landscaping at the entrance to San Lorenzo County Park.

The June 13 dedication is set for 11:30 a.m. at the site of the project, which was overseen by members of King City in Bloom, a non-profit corporation whose goal is to enhance and increase the beauty of King City with landscaping and plantings.

“This project is the sum total of many King City and South County businesses, clubs and residents along with the City of King staff,” organizers said in a news release. “Their contributions both monetary and with direct supplies brought this area to its final finished product.”

King City Rotary Club purchased the 30-foot windmill, which was made in Amish Country and shipped across the United States.

Many days of hard work were spent preparing the site and hauling in all the native stones from Greenfield, donated by Big Valley Labor owners John Romans and John Ramirez.

“This was a big effort and could only have been accomplished by the wonderful workers from Big Valley Labor — all donated and so appreciated,” said King City in Bloom Chairwoman Laurie Slaten.

Landscaping guru, Frank Lopez, offered equipment and valuable advice on preparing the site and planting the trees and bushes. Additional donors included King City Lions Club, California Water, Pacific Valley Bank, King City Transplanting, L.A. Hearne, King City Industrial, Clark Trucking, the Garden House and Susan Gill.

Pete Anecito and his crew facilitated the moving of the boulders, supplied from Granite Construction.

“All in all this was a South Monterey County effort and will stand as a gateway to San Lorenzo Park,” organizers said. “The members of King City in Bloom are grateful to all who participated.”
